Description

A young couple's stormy romance scandalizes English society in this acclaimed adaptation of Jane Austen's classic love story. Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds of the Royal Shakespeare Company are the star-crossed lovers, Anne and Wentworth, whose passion is thwarted by a scheming socialite. Eight years later, when Anne is considered an old maid and her once-rich family is on the verge of bankruptcy, Wentworth returns. Will their second chance at love be ruined by the social conventions that destroyed it once? Or will the heart be persuaded by rules of its own? Adding flirtatious fun to Austen's irresistible romance, Persuasion takes your breathe away! A dazzling five-star feast.

This is one of my comfort movies, it’s just so beautiful. A literary masterpiece of Jane Austen’s brought to life with real care. Also gotta say, some A++ yearning.

A poor adaptation. Very unappealing cast, bad camera work, dated feel. Couldn't even finish it.

Wow, talk about a long boring movie. I ‘persuaded’ myself to finish watching it because I paid $4 to rent it. Pride and Prejudice, Emma, and Sense and Sensibility are well worth the watch, not this. Lacked excitement and drama. Yawn.
  • Awesome movie, great actors!

Love this adaptation of Persuasion, it's the best! The actors were perfect for their perspective roles!

There are about 5 minutes that matter in this movie. The rest is pretty boring.
  • Just what was the point?

It would be difficult to produce a less monotonous movie. There wasn't one character I cared anything about. If this was supposed to be a love story, it missed the mark quite widely; nothing much about that story was evident. Rather, this was nothing more than a very long and droll movie about a list of characters with personality quirks. So what?
  • A very beautiful film!

This is probably the best adaptation to screen of any of Jane Austen's novels. It's beautifully filmed, with amazing atmosphere and wonderful acting, especially from Amanda Root. It captures the mood of the novel so very well--that quiet desperation and longing for a second chance. It's really wonderful to watch!

"Vanessa" Redgrave IS NOT in this film. (as Mike Clark of USA Today has written above). Did he see the film? I'm sure he did not! "Corin" Redgrave was in it, however. One of the great films, though and worth all the positive reviews it has received.
