Working together for the 12th time, John Wayne and director John Ford forged The Searchers into an indelible image of the frontier and the men and women who challenged it. Wayne plays ex-Confederate soldier Ethan Edwards, a believer more in bullets than in words. He's seeking his niece, captured by Comanches who massacred his family. He won't surrender to hunger, thirst, the elements or loneliness. And in his obsessive, five-year quest, Ethan encounters something he didn't expect to find: his own humanity.

  • An Underrated Western!

What a beautifully shot western which has become a true classic and one of Fords best!
  • Favorite John Wayne Movie

I have always grown up around western movies, as a kid I thought I would be the next John Wayne. What a great movie for a kid, but this movie takes the cake, I could watch it over and over and never get tired of it! “That’ll be the day”.
  • The sound on my copy of the movie is completely choppy.

Best Wayne and Ford collaboration ever made.
  • Great film, WRONG aspect ratio

    By emojeans
Unfortunately, the film is presented in 16:9 aspect ratio and doesn’t do this beautiful film any justice. :(
  • Why only in Full Screen?

Wasn't The Searchers Shot in Widescreen VistaVision? Where is that Version?

My favorite John Wayne film. This is a powerful story with excellent acting by the entire cast. On my top five list of western films.
  • Genius

Classic. Epic. Patient. Furious. Driving. Intense. Passionate. Angry. Timed. Vengeful. In a word, perfect. Arguably the best John Ford directed western, with John "the Duke" Wayne spear-heading this powerful locomotive of a movie. Takes its time and gets it right on the money. There's never too much to say about this film. And Duke Wayne is just fierce under John Ford's genius. Take notes, boys and girls. Is it the greatest American western film of all time? Quite possibly... A true force to be reckoned with.
