Description

Something is killing off townsfolk in Tarker's Mills. Something mysterious. Something ingenious. Something remotely human. But the only person in town with courage to stop this lurking menace is a 13-year-old boy, confined to a wheelchair since birth. Adapted to the screen by suspense master Stephen King from his "Cycle of the Werewolf" novelette, this exhilarating thriller features astounding special effects by three-time Oscar® winner Carlo Rambaldi ("E.T.," "Alien," "King Kong").

My husband and I went to see this movie on the big screen years ago when it came out. Spoiler Alert!! There’s a scene where the uncle thinks the kids are messing around with him and he takes the silver bullet out of the gun! It’s a very intense scene and in the absolute silence of the theater a man yells “PUT THE BULLET IN THE GUN!!” And when the actor doesn’t comply fast enough he yells again, “PUT THE BULLET IN THE GUN!” By this time the tension was gone and everyone was laughing but I will never forget that moment as long as I live. Now when I watch again…and again…you know what I’m saying at that pivotal moment!!!
  • One of the few werewolf movies I can call awesome!

The Howling, Howling III: The Marsupials, Howling IV: The Original Nightmare, Wolf, An American Werewolf in London, Bad Moon, Ginger Snaps, Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed, Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning. Silver Bullet is another fantastic movie I can add to the rare list of great horror movies I’ve seen about werewolves! Even better, it’s based on Cycle of the Werewolf, a novella by Stephen King, one of the best horror writers around, who also scripted the movie! I wish I had the DVD; it’s that good!!!

Ignore the bogus reviews. Frankly, I wish I could get my money back. This film is an absolute dog. Bad acting, annoying actors, terrible effects, and just about as bad as it could be. The music is also lifted from everywhere and in most cases it is totally inappropriate, such as sparkly sweet music for when someone gets away from the villain. There have been a couple of Steven King stories made into excellent films. All the others totally stunk. This is one of the very worst of the stinkers.

Im a little bit surprised this hasn’t become a cult classic. It is, after all, a film that features Corey Haim riding a rocket powered wheel chair, while being chased down by a werewolf priest. And I will admit, the writing in this film is surprisingly good, as well as some of the acting. However, the special effects are REALLY dated, some of the dialog can be hokey at time, and Gary Busey is in it, which will either make or break the film for you. Overall, however, i think this is a slightly underrated gem, and if you like crazy, 80’s cheese, this is a film made for you.
