I loved this movie and watched it four times, and suggested it to all my friends. The ending is a surprise and the plot is interesting. Maybe it wasn't realistic but it was still overall a very good film.

I watched this movie hoping that it would be a really good one - I love Timothy Hutton as an actor and thought that he'd make this movie a good one. But to my surprise, the plot was inane, the dialogue awkward, and the movie completely unfunny. Meg Ryan and Timothy Hutton were totally un-charming. It was a total disappointment, and I never wish to watch a movie so horrible ever again!
  • Worth watching if you enjoy Meg Ryan's film

Serious Moonlight is a movie scripted for the type of movies Meg Ryan is known to act. 4/10 is a bit harsh for this film from the critics. Is it a little bit of a stretch in the plausability of the plot, yes. A busy lawyer (Ryan) comes home a day early to surprise her husband (Hutton) only to find him getting ready to welcome his mistress (Bell) and wisk her away to Paris, France. In a fit of shock and rage she throws a potted plant at him and knocks him unconscious. Her husband awakes duct taped to a chair with a wife watching guard determined to make him fall in love with her or go to jail. The house gets robbed after he ends up duct taped to a toilet. The two get trapped in the bathroom while the robbers enjoy a night of drunken destruction at on the owners tab. Its a light hearted comedy that you'll most likely love or hate; but worth the rent none the less if you skeptical of buying right now.
  • Terrible story, didn't like any of the characters

I like Hutton and Ryan but this movie really failed for me. Some movies have plot complications that just make me sick and this was one of them. The whole movie is with Hutton screaming to be unstrapped from a toilet. I'm a 41 year old man. I watched this movie (a couple months ago) all the while expecting more until eventually I just wanted it to end. It was nausiating and tedious. The reviewer immediately below me was totally right. Watch at your own risk. You've been warned.
  • If you like watching people abuse each other, this is your movie.

For a few seconds, you see some pretty California scenery. That mostly occurs during the opening credits. A wife ties her husband up, rather than let him leave her. This story sounds like it could be funny and charming; in this treatment, it is neither. The characters are contemptible, the story ludicrous, the dialogue excruciating. There is no humor and no romance in this nasty film. It's a very long session of sado-masochism, not only artistically but literally. Apparently some people like that, but my wife and I were nauseated. To each his own, but you've been warned.

First of all, acting is superb! Story might seem simple and predictable in the beginning but it is not really. You might want to watch it twice as I did and will enjoy it even more second time.

I wouldnt say its the type of movie that has you laughing out loud but the situation is hillarious. Its a silly comedy with some funny moments and light laughs. There is a love story there as well. Meg Ryan looks beautiful and is perfect for this part. Justin Long surprised me, he did a great job too. The acting was great, the movie was fun, and the moral of the story is actually an important one. Id recomend watching this movie to anyone who is in a light hearted mood, and not looking for the years greatest comedy... just something to watch that can make you smile and see the hillarity in tradgey.
