Description

Andy Griffith ("Matlock," "The Andy Griffith Show") and Myron McCormick repeat their roles from Ira Levin's hit Broadway play. It's peacetime in the Army, but laughter abounds as a hayseed private and his harried sergeant stage their own private war. One of the top-grossing films of its release year, which went on to spawn a TV series. Co-starring five-time Emmy Award-winner Don Knotts ("Matlock," "Three's Company").

"You know what they call people in the Air Force? 'Airmen', like something out of a danged funny book. What are you gonna do when someone calls you 'Airman'"? "By God I don't think I'll stand for it" These are some of the funniest quotes from the movie, and my favorites! This movie will make you laugh! The first time I saw it, I was in grade school and loved it even back then! You can go on YouTube and watch the original play.

Let's correct a few things... The TV series that came from No Time for Sergants was No Time for Sergeants. The Phil Silvers Show (Bilko) had been on TV for a few years already, when this film was released and was already on TV when the play was on Broadway. It does NOT co-star Don Knotts. Knotts has a 4 minute cameo (out of a two hour movie) as an aptitude tester who is confounded by Griffith's character. Gomer Pyle is a spin-off from The Andy Griffith Show. He was a Mayberry resident who worked at the "filling station" and was drafted. The character of Will Stockdale is very different from Pyle.

One of the all-time great military comedies. Just for your info, despite what the plot summary says, this movie deals with Air Force personnel, not Army. I could be wrong, but I believe the show that was spawned from "Sergeants" was The Sgt. Bilko Show, starring Phil Silvers. The show took place in the Army, and was made into a movie with the same name a few years ago starring Steve Martin.
