Description

In late 2007, filmmakers Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost sensed a story unfolding as they began to film the life of Ariel’s brother, Nev. They had no idea that their project would lead to the most exhilarating and unsettling months of their lives. A reality thriller that is a shocking product of our times, Catfish is a riveting story of love, deception and grace within a labyrinth of online intrigue.

iTunes says that the movie is a thriller but google says that it’s a documentary/indie film. The only time that this movie seemed like it was going to be even remotely thrilling or scary for that matter was when I watch the trailer/preview. Personally to me NOTHING about this movie scary/thrilling.👎🏽

This is a beautiful movie about the strange ways in which we go about finding the things that we need from others. The concepts of intrugue introduced are as old as human history; you will find these tropes in works of Shakespeare & Dickens but this time the strangenss of humanity is expressed through new mediums: the internet and Facebook.

This movie is really more of a mystery because, just as the online lives could be faked, so could this entire documentary. Worth seeing.
  • Good movie, but not a thriller

This movie is in no way a thriller, which is very misleading. It's an interesting story though and I definitely recommend it.

Therefore, I was more aware than the other viewers. Since the TV show is popular now. It's incredibly slow and a bit boring. Mostly sad. I wouldn't consider it indie, or documentary, it's more like an indie's fetus. Which could be considered a documentary. And definitely more real and raw than the TV show. Well, it started a pop culture phenom and Catfish is now in the Webster's Dictionary. So this weird idea, these weird but intriguing characters... Well, it all worked out in the end. For Nev. at least. How's Angela doing now? And is Her husband even aware he started the germination of the coining of the word Catfish? Well I wanted to see it since I started watching the show. And. I. Saw. It. There it is :)

This movie is amazing. It really shows the times that we live in, when social networking has become the "in thing". With so many relationships starting on-line, this is a good reality check that many people are in need of. Now, I'm not saying that Facebook is bad (I'm a Facebook user), but the movie does show you that you have to be careful using these social networking sites...so would life be boring without catfish swimming around us and keeping us on our toes?..

I love catfish the tv show and decided to rent the movie. I didn't like it, it didn't have me on the edge of my seat like I'd hoped. It's nice to know Nevs story but its to long and drawn out for a movie. Ill stick with the tv show.
