Description

There's no mistaking the grand voice, the outsized personality, the friendly, open face. Stepping outside his traditional operatic canon to star in his only feature film is renowned tenor Luciano Pavarotti. Not that the "King of the High Cs" steps too far outside with this breezy tale of romance. Nor would fans want things any other way. The role of an opera star touring the U.S. provides an ample showcase for Pavarotti's rich vocal artistry in works including Ave Maria, La Donna È Mobile, his signature Nessun Dorma, even I Left My Heart in San Francisco. Franklin J. Schaffner (Patton) directs, with locations including Italy, Boston, New York and the Napa Valley. Bravo, Giorgio! Bravissimo, Luciano!

  • Now if iTunes would put out the soundtrack album...

I saw this movie, and yes, it is as cheesy as can be. However, just as with the Paul McCartney movie "Give My Regards To Broad Street", the real showcasing is of the music and the performer. It is very interesting that the movie is still available, but the soundtrack album (which is an excellent classical album in its own right) has been out of print for years and NEVER released to CD in the US. (it had a -very- shortlived run as an import) Please, iTunes, get the album to this movie, since it is a great showcase for both Pavarotti and the instrumental selections by John Williams!! (and I do NOT mean that chopped up combo of the John Williams scores for Spacecamp and Yes Giorgio, but the London Records soundtrack to Yes Giorgio) Rating: 3 stars for the movie, 5 (wish it could be higher) stars for the soundtrack album (which I have in vinyl).

Who'd have thought a fair young woman, like I once was, would fall for an overweight & much older opera singer? But how blinded I was the moment he opened his mouth to sing! It may be a ham & cheese movie, but I'd order it any day of the week! I only regret never getting to meet this amazing man. watch the movie if you are on the fence about opera. It made me fall in love with the greatest voice & the most passionate music there is!

One wouldn't rent this film to judge Pavarotti's acting genius, because it won't be found here. Rather, one should rent this film to experience his legendary voice in some of the best music ever written surrounded by some wonderful set design. Having that said, even though the storyline is a bit cheesy, it's still fun and worthwhile.

Luciano Pavarotti was indeed the greatest tenor of out times, this movie reflects, indeed, what his unique voice and personality was.

Wow! You have made my day! I watched this film when I was 12 years old and I truly loved it right from the start. I was looking for this movie everywhere for years. I couldn't find it anywhere. Now I watched it again after 23 years and it really brought some great memories back to me. I was surprised how much of the movie I remembered. Bravissimo! Thanks Itunes for uploading this movie!
