Description

Based on Frank Miller's acclaimed graphic novel, this intense and visually inventive two-part animated film tells the story of a nalternate future for Batman. Although the Dark Knight is retired from crime fighting, Gotham City still needs its hero. In part I, after the death of his protégé Jason Todd, billionaire industrialist Bruce Wayne was forced to retire from his Batman persona. Now, ten years later,Gotham City is overrun with crime and terrorized by a gang known as the Mutants. When the 55-year-old Wayne finds out that former district attorney Harvey Dent, also known as the villainous Two-Face, has gone into hiding, he is driven to don the cape and cowl again to battle the crime epidemic. After Batman rescues her, 13-year-old Carrie Kelley dresses as Robin and helps the aging Batman prevail in a violent conflict with Dent and the Mutants.

  • One of the Greatest movies I’ve Ever Seen

This is hands down the best Batman Movie I’ve ever seen, and Batman The Dark Knight Returns is a close second! Better than The Dark Knight, in my opinion! I love these Batman Films, they were a staple of my High school Life, and made me fall in love with the character all over again! The Comic it’s based on is one of the finest pieces of media I’ve ever seen, and it really translates to animation extraordinarily well. I highly recommend you get both part 1 and 2! They’re masterpieces of story telling! And if you’re really into this movie afterwards, get the deluxe edition and the soundtrack! Christopher Drake outdid himself with the score! It has echoes of a Batman from long ago, but more melancholic and moody to fit the movies aesthetic. The character Designs are dark and grim, but still retain a cartoony charm. This should not off-put people from watching this film! It’s anything but a kids film! It is very much meant for an adult audience, specifically anyone who grew up on the old Batman comics/tv show. To see the character evolve in such a mature way is truly remarkable, and part of that is attributed to the voice acting. Robocops actor does the voice work for this version of Batman. Though many people had to get used to him, I actually liked his portrayal of the Dark Knight! He’s a much older caped crusader and his voice actor lends a tone of experience and drama to the role. In fact, all of the voice actors are amazing! I can’t think of a single one who does a poor job at all, Jim Gordon being my favorite of them all! But the crème de la crème of the movie is the stellar animation and camera work! I love this style, it’s so fluid and rich with dark colors and atmospheric lighting. The cinematography is on point in this movie, and if this were live action, it would translate just as well! The fight scenes are brutal, and the part of the films strength is showing that brutality with weight and gravitas! If it’s not obvious by now, this is one of my favorite super hero movies ever! I love this film unconditionally, maybe some of that might be part nostalgia, but most of it is just because of how well rounded of a movie this is, especially for a direct to dvd movie… seriously, WHY DIDNT THIS GET A THEATRICAL RELEASE!? It deserves as much! Anyway, I highly recommend it to everyone!

This will go down in my top 3 favorite comic book adaptions. The soundtrack, the animation, and the story were all brilliantly presented for an audience in need of a great tale.

This is a gem of a film…and it must be watch with Part 2 to find its crescendo and do justice to the story. This movie delves deep into the loneliness that Bruce Wayne/Batman’s damaged self brings with it. In this movie, an ageing Batman must summon the smarts and the strength to fight new, stronger, more menacing villains. Incredible story!

Im not a comic junkie i just wanted to watch a movie and eat pizza so i rented this. Iv seen others animations as well and dont mind. But this movie is sooo slow and boring. The story is....there really wasnt one. No point to the whole thing, no backstory, completely lost. Then when I finally thought it was over it keeps going. Just sad I cant believe the fanboy are really protection this movie.h

I'm rating this 1 star b/c now there is a full-fledged release combing parts 1 & 2 for $19.99, yet this price remains the same. I'm not sure if Apple is keeping the price this high or if it's the studio, but for $2.00 more you can have both halves in a seamless feature-length film. Save your cash for that one!!!
