Description

A young girl is brutally murdered in a wheat field on a hot summer day in 1986. The killer is never found. 23 years later, a 13-year-old girl disappears in similar circumstances, leading the police to suspect the same killer may be at work. As the retired investigator of the earlier case joins a widowed young detective to delve into the mystery of the parallel crimes, the parents of the missing girl, the mother of the original victim, and an accomplice to the 1986 killing all have their worlds begin to crumble as they are drawn deeper into a web of guilt, despair and uncertainty. Luminously shot and commandingly directed by Baran bo Odar, The Silence is a startling, cinematic and utterly mesmerizing thriller.

Aside from some pretty cinematography, this movie is terrible. Poorly paced, implausible, with no suspense or drama. Not a good film.

Excellent film with outstanding performances and none of the easy answers here that are offered many times in the mainstream American films with the similar themes. Exceedingly refreshing.

This was a very good film but I must admit that it took me awhile to get the three or four threads running through the film straight in my head. One thing that seems particularly unusual about the film is that the police never catch the actual murderer. One thing that bothers me with the captioning of foreign language film is why is it necessary to place a caption for text displayed on the original film? I can't imagine that someone that speaks English not being able to figure out that "8 Juli 1986, Freitag" is "8 July 1986, Friday".

Honestly, this is not a real good way to spend 2 hours. Director has spent a lot of time on non important moments, while the musics chosen are not suitable for some scenes. I'm a movie lover, that's why i am giving it a 3 stars, my friends and family will be rating this not more than 2.

A Hitchcockian film that wears the Master's influence with reverent subtlety. Beautifully shot. A harrowing & haunting meditation on loneliness.

Abandoned this movie with 45 minutes left. All of the characters are distinctly unlikeable and annoying.
