First off, if you hate subtitled movies you may not enjoy this since the audio is chinese. Past that this movie was beautifully done. The story was heart moving and action packed. Its choreographed fight scenes were intense and realistic in the sense that a few heroes dont just blow thru an enemy army without a scratch like you see too often in american films. The film has strong messages that were inspirational. Without wanting to give away anything Ill just say that this is one of the best movies ive seen in a long time, reminiscent of saving private ryan. Definitely worth AT LEAST renting.

Director Donny Yu has created a gorgeous film with an emotionally touching storyline, which evidently is based in historical fact. General Yang’s family, including their seven sons, are tightly knit and very endearing. The General is firm and honorable, but also has a warmth to his character- his hearty laugh is contagious. His wife and sons all adore him, and this is crucial to the storyline. The screenplay portrays this without dragging on- actually, the entire film is nicely paced. As you watch this movie, take notice of the gorgeous scenery, the excellent lighting, and the well thought out camera angles. It is simply one of the best shot films I have ever seen- foreign or American alike. The acting is excellent as well. There is every reason to watch Saving General Yang- you will enjoy the journey!

First off, lots of people watch these Asian films and wonder why stories pan out the way they do. Asian films usually show a viewer that achievements require sacrifice. Were American films follow the happily ever after approach. This movie is amazing, looks good, follows goo moral messages and shows sacrifices must be made for the greater good and coming to understand it. I gave this a 5 stars because even just reading the subtitles yoiu still feel the emotion of the characters and def get intuned with the movie. Just Awesome.
