Pride is inspired by an extraordinary true story. It's the summer of 1984, Margaret Thatcher is in power and the National Union of Mineworkers is on strike, prompting a London-based group of gay and lesbian activists to raise money to support the strikers' families. Initially rebuffed by the Union, the group identifies a tiny mining village in Wales and sets off to make their donation in person. As the strike drags on, the two groups discover that standing together makes for the strongest union of all...

moving in many ways, one of which was taking me back to 1984, one of the best years of my life...the much was new, and bright-eyed. I wasn't struggling in the gay community, nor did the miner's unions strikes hit the front pages much in 1980s America., but I certainly empathise, as I lost my kind and wonderful dad to AIDS in the late 70s. I hadn't known he was gay until more than a decade later, as "family" had kept it a secret, simply because I'd "find it cool", and that was "wrong". I wish I'd thanked him for all that he taught me about finding beauty in everyday things, teaching me to immerse myself in art, and that you don't need loads of money to be in awe of an amazing view, or to simply be together, driving around looking at all of the different types of architecture in So. Cal.
  • Just wow. So amazing

This movie was such a fantastic watch. I remember watching it when it came out a year or so ago. One of the most beautiful cinematic examples of Pride that exists. A must watch.
  • Perfect Title For The Film

I was talked into watching this film -but within a few minutes I was completely drawn in. By the end, I found it one of the most rewarding movies I’d seen in ages -funny and affecting. I’ll admit I wept openly by the end. This is a film that doesn’t make you feel good for being a union worker or gay -It makes you feel good as a human being. Watch it, and you too will feel Pride.
  • Will make you stand up and cheer

What a great story, and each part well-acted. In an actor’s single look or gesture, so much is conveyed about how it must feel when the powers that be are against you … either because you are a striking Welsh miner or a gay or lesbian person. Lots of fun and laughter as well as tears and, often, cheering out loud. Highly recommended.

Love this movie. Everything about it, the characters, the cast, the story… It made me cry and laugh at the same time. Reminded me what it means to be placed on this earth. To share love. And to fight for it.
  • Just buy this movie now...

Absolutely fantastic! One of my all-time favorite movies. It is both hilarious and heartbreaking, and entertaining as hell to watch. Regardless of gender or sexual orientation, this movie has a message for everyone. I have spent so much money renting this movie, that I ended up buying it (something I rarely do). Don't bother spending money renting this film, just buy it now because you'll want to watch it over and over.

This review comes from two straight and married 36 years getting very close to old age but very happy people - WE LOVED THIS MOVIE! It was so inspiring, so well-acted, and so truthful it hurt. But to witness two such different but in many ways similar groups come together for basically “the right thing” is something we should all take witness to and aspire to. We should all take this movie to heart and commit to loving and supporting each other no matter what our differences. Absolutely highly recommended!
