Description

Patrick Stewart gives a captivating performance in this witty, emotionally gripping adaptation of director Stephen Belber's own Tony Award-nominated play. Stewart stars as Tobi, an eccentric, pot-smoking Manhattan ballet instructor whose quiet life is interrupted by the arrival of a young couple (Carla Gugino & Matthew Lillard) from Seattle, presumably there to interview him about his colorful life as a dancer in the 1960s. As Tobi spins salacious tales from his former career, an ulterior motive for the couple's visit emerges, forcing the trio to confront a secret that may connect them all. Driven by Stewart's tour-de-force performance, Match moves masterfully between razor-sharp comic banter and heartrending poignancy.

I don't understand the bad reviews that this movie received. It is a wonderful film that portrays people as we are, not some blitzed up Hollywood version. Enjoy it for what it is, a story about the choices we make, flawed and wonderful.

Please ignore nzjetstar1's review. The story is a very contemporary one that really touches the human experience. Sir Patrick Stewart as always performed brilliantly, the rest of the cast was spot on, and in the interest of the indie film art, it was a very tasteful movie. The ballet portion is just a backstory, for those who saw the preview. The one thing that stands out, to me at least, is that it follows a more real sense of life. What I mean by that is there is no overly-emotional standardized movie here. It's true to what we see in day-to-day life; it just is. A very face-value and well made movie. Well done.
  • Incredible! Patrick Stewart DOES NOT cease to AMAZE!

PLEASE disregard the bad reviews and WATCH the movie yourself. The film uses ballet and the mantle of a gay character to effectively illustrate pivotal life issues. It awakens the viewer to issues that too often numb people and how sacrifices, like any other decision, have consequences. Thank you for a film with substance!
