Description

Strange things are afoot in Bad City. The Iranian ghost town, home to prostitutes, junkies, pimps, and other sordid souls, is a place that reeks of death and hopelessness, where a lonely vampire is stalking the towns' most unsavory inhabitants. But when boy meets girl, an unusual love story begins to blossom...blood red.The first Iranian Vampire Western, Ana Lily Amirpour's debut feature basks in the sheer pleasure of pulp. A joyful mash-up of genre, archetype and iconography, its prolific influences span spaghetti westerns, graphic novels, horror films, and the Iranian New Wave. Amped by a mix of Iranian rock, techno and Morricone-inspired riffs, its airy, anamorphic, black-and-white aesthetic and artfully drawn out scenes combined with simmering tension to make the first Iranian Vampire Western.

I think there is a lot more buzz about this movie than it should. Was okay but disappointing compared to the reviews and hype.

A new perspective on how vampires should be. Modern, mysterious and intriguing! Good movie and not some Michael bay which is nice

Creative and fun. Not really scary. It's a creative exploration, a new idea, kept me interested. Music is also nice.

This isn't a five star movie but it's definitely different and entertaining. I hadn't read the reviews before renting as it was a $.99 rental so who cares if it's a waste of money? From start to finish it kind of has the viewer saying, "What the?! Did he just....?" Then, it turns a bit creepy/freaky. Not at all like any movie I've seen. I would watch it again.

Easily the most atmosphere I have visited on film in a long while. Reminiscent of 'woman in the dunes'. Stunning on all levels.
  • A truly incredible film in the tradition of the best horror cinema

A delicate and brutal tale of mysoginy, female empowerment, counter culture and blood sucking skate boarding vampires, this is one of the most propulsively exciting and entertainingly dark horror movies in years. Intelligent and yet broad in it's camp value, with probably some of the best cinematography and lighting I've ever seen in a movie. And all of this is technical details-the movie wouldn't work as well as it does without it's amazing director and her star, a cuts an amazing debut performance here for many, a dark mirror of audrey hepburn and sean young, a presence unexpected and impossible to find in any other performer currently. This is absolutely a must see for fans of film, arthouse/mainstream and horror. I can't emphasize enough what a bloody dark and fun time this is at the movies.
