Description

A Bolivian presidential candidate failing badly in the polls enlists the firepower of an elite American management team, led by the deeply damaged, but still brilliant strategist "Calamity" Jane Bodine (Bullock). In self-imposed retirement following a scandal that earned her nickname and rocked her to her core, Jane is coaxed back into the game for the chance to beat her professional nemesis, the loathsome Pat Candy (Thornton), now coaching the opposition. But as Candy zeroes in on every vulnerability-both on and off the campaign trail-Jane is plunged into a personal crisis as intense as the one her team exploits nationally to boost their numbers. Dramatic, rapid-fire and laced with satire, Our Brand is Crisis reveals the cynical machinations and private battles of world-class political consultants for whom nothing is sacred and winning is all that matters.

And though I understand the James Carville reference with BBT bald head, not sure he is right person either. Agree something is off a bit, not quite sure what it is. I do know where the Jane character comes from. I think the thing Bullock makes me understand totally is the need for/habit of wanting to win, the sense of spiritual vacuum the betrayals create. Not just the politician’s but her betrayal of the citizens and because she has most fundamentally been dishonest with herself. This is not a comedy; would not think it was meant to be a comedy. Just having Bullock in it makes it seem like something …other than what I thought it was - a morality tale and one more step in a heroine’s journey. Even down to rediscovering the pleasure of community after a long self-imposed exile.

Seemed to like a great idea with a terrific cast. Wrong. Lousy movie. Not worth a rental much less a purchase.
  • Great movie, but...

While I did really like the humor in this film, it just felt a little out of place. One liners, good. But the physical humor felt really out of place. That and it was a bit confusing towards the end. Still worth a watch, though!

Terrific👍🏼 Awesome movie great actors humor mix with drama. Sandra Bullock is outstanding and funny. Billy Bob is phenomenal. Both bring excellence to any film given. Hats off to all the wonderful actors in this film. A job well done😀

It was nice seeing Sandra Bullock do a dark political comedy. Acting was top notch and I enjoyed the story line. It's disappointing to see it wasn't a success at the box office, but maybe in time it can be a fluke and do well on digital format sales. Overall I'd love to see a nomination for the entire cast at the upcoming award shows, but it's unlikely due to the politics of cinema. Sandra if you are reading this don't frown because you did right by making this movie. Once again we see what an amazing talented and versatile woman you are in the art of film.
