Description

Nominated for eight (8) Academy Awards, this acclaimed film broke stigmas for mood disorders in a raw, exuberant and ultimately triumphant story of misfit love, family and community. Set specifically in a Philadelphia neighborhood (based on Matthew Quick’s novel), Oscar-nominated Bradley Cooper surprised, moved, and captivated audiences in his portrayal of Pat Solatano, a man who returns from eight (8) months of enforced time in a mental hospital to put his life back together. Jennifer Lawrence dazzled — and won the 2012 Academy Award for Best Actress — as the tough and inspired neighborhood girl recovering from her own tragedies. She synchronized with gem performances by fellow Academy Award nominees Robert De Niro and Jacki Weaver who created an emotional household unlike any other in film built upon this father's superstitious bookmaking on Philadelphia Eagles games. With a stellar cast rounded out by Chris Tucker, John Ortiz, Anupam Kehr, Shea Whigham, and Julia Stiles, the film was singled out by US Senators in Washington seeking parity for mental health treatment and services. The film is a surprising story as heartfelt as it is comedic and enchanting.

The movie is kind of silly and somewhat stupid, actually. De Niro, of course, is just De Niro. He's soooooooooo one-dimensional. Every movie he's ever done looks just like the movie he's done before it--for his part. And this distracts from the movie per se. So, on to the movie: predictable is the best word you could use to describe it. At many junctures, you just KNOW what's about to happen next, and then it does. Where's the fun in that?!?! Gawd--I wish actors, writers, and directors were more CREATIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This looked like a light hearted comedy, but was a downer from start to finish. Don’t let the smile on the cover fool you.

First and foremost this movie actually is a five out of five. Deservingly. My score given is for the support I recently received through apple. I bought this movie back in 2015. The person who helped me verify the purchase was very specific about it. April 2015. I watched this movie this year on my account. But somehow, magically, it has disappeared from my account and I either have to purchase this again or rent it. Now I was told that the movie was taken down during the time that I was on the phone with support. I assured the employee that the movie could still be purchased during this call. Then I was told that the company that owns the movie (not iTunes) took the movie down, revamped it and then put it back up making it a completely new product. I already paid for this movie. Why should I pay for it again? The issue was resolved with three free rentals. Three free rentals. Three free rentals? Are you kidding me, apple? Just put the movie , that I clearly purchased years back, back on my account. It’s real simple. The sad thing is is that I’ll probably give you money again for this because the movie was that good. Listen, I’ve been an apple consumer since the first iPhone. I have poured thousands, like many others, into this money pit called “apple.” But when you tell me that I can’t watch a movie I purchased because it somehow got removed from my account and then tell me I have to buy it again ... come on apple. You can do better than that. Thanks

This movie is my favorite. It shows mental illness through comedy, moods, drama, trauma, romance, family, love, creativity...i could go on. I have bipolar 1 and can relate to Pat on almost every level with the exception that I am a woman. When I first watched it, it was entertaining, but then i watched it again and I could relate it to my life. Silver Linings is just what society needs because it delivers entertainment and it delivers the hard truths of navigating life with a mental illness. The creators did a great job of that. Everyone knows someone with mental illness. Its important that we fo a better job of understanding and relating. To this day I make comparisons and realizations about this movie and myself with my therapist. Silver Linings Playbook and the entire cast deserves nothing less than 5 stars.

This movie was indeed great. I watched it a few times now and I fell in love with it. The first time I watched it, I was disturbed. I have since studied the movie as it played out and realized that I'm an idiot. The plot is very deep and subtle things in this movie come back to adhere things wonderfully. The love that exists throughout is intertwined with flaws that we all possess. I absolutely love this movie and I think if it's given a chance, more will as well.
