Description

Albert Markovski (Jason Schwartzman), head of the Open Spaces Coalition, has been experiencing an alarming series of coincidences that have lead him to fall under the influence of nihilistic competitor Brad Stand (Jude Law); an executive climbing the corporate ladder at Huckabees - a popular chain of retail superstores. With the help of two Existential Detectives, Bernard and Vivian Jaffe (Dustin Hoffman and Lily Tomlin), Albert examines his life, his relationships, and his conflict with Brad.

Confusing, humorless, and boring. It was difficult to watch and I had to stop half way through. Save yourself the time and money and pick a different movie.

Either you are an Albert and love this film and pretend to understand it, or you are a Brad and you hate this film because it makes you feel stupid and insignificant. It's a lovely movie with amazing acting that's heavy on substance and bound together with an amazingly tight plot. The music is darling and the light slapstick is delicately done as not to detract from the film. This film is not for everyone. It is not a movie for people who go to the movies not to think. There is a heavy use of French and German post modern theory as well as some Jungian psychology mixed in for goo measure. If you love science of sleep, eternal sunshine, cold souls, or any of those highbrow / low brow films - this is a must see!

this isnt a very deep or thought provoking movie, just an absurd comedy about a selfish little brat going through an existential crisis, as selfish little brats tend to do
  • A Strangely Good Movie

I first decided to see this film after discovering that a much younger Jason Schwartzman played one of the lead roles. At first, I was confused and unsure more than anything on what the film was actually about, and what the whole point was. After watching it a second time, I got the point, but I didn't at the same time. However, the true meaning behind the film was to find the meaning of life and that somehow, everything in the universe is connected. "I Heart Huckabees" reflects upon the story of Albert, a 21-year-old poet and activist who hopes to find the meaning behind his coincidences by seeking help from two married detectives, but these are not your typical detectives. They hope to help him by finding out why and how he has become the person he is, with a little help from his new found friend, Tom (played by Mark Wahlberg) and an eccentric novelist and philosopher who sees life in a different light. The story may sound confusing enough, though I read up that the film was not necessarily supposted to make that much sense, but to still have true meaning behind it, which is to find out the philosophy of life.

Props. Oh and say hello to your mother for me.
  • Wild... since when is existential thought by nature elitist?

Great movie. Literalists beware (or break free...). Lots to love here. Hoffman and Tomlin are great. And what an illuminating cultural commentary... when several reviewers comment that existential thought is somehow a privilege reserved for society's elite. Religion, social movements... these are not the tools of the elite. Set yourselves free, people...

This is a ridiculous movie. The actors are solid. I would rent it and not buy.
