Description

Academy Award winner Jack Nicholson (Best Actor, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, 1975) stars with Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper (who also directs) in this unconventional classic which Time Magazine hails as "one of the ten most important pictures of the decade." Experience the real, uncensored '60s counterculture in this compelling mixture of drugs, sex and armchair politics. In the role that catapulted him to stardom, Jack Nicholson portrays an alcoholic attorney who hooks up with two part-time, drug-dealing motorcyclists (Fonda and Hopper) in search of their "American Dream." Heading from California to New Orleans, they sample the highs and lows of America the beautiful in a stoned-out quest for life's true meaning. Nominated for an Academy Award (1969) for Best Screenplay (written by Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper and Terry Southern), Easy Rider continues to touch a chord with audiences of all ages.

If you were born in the late 40s or 50s and saw this movie when it first came out, it is a classic and you’ll get it . It’s not fair to compare it to today’s movies. Movie cameras, etc have advanced so much since this movie was made. I saw it about 10 times when it came out and every time i watched it I noticed things I have missed previously. Oh, and it’s best viewed stoned. You can tell by the reviews who saw it when it came out and the millennials that have recently watched it.

Imagine John Ford on Acid. The huge vistas of the American Southwest. The canyons, mountains, rivers & streams of the pueblo tribes are the highlights of this film for me. Jack Nicholson as the drunk southern lawyer who gets turned on to cannabis. Dennis Hopper & Peter Fonda playing 2 characters based on David Crosby and Roger McGuinn on a Harley road trip across America. A great film for freedom lovers who might decide to explore the mysterious American Southwest after seeing this film. Nothing is more American than the hippie and the cowboy. Five Stars.

Hands down, this is one of the movies that mattered in that decade. The I tunes profile makes it sound like Nicholson was major character, but that's not true. Obviously the reviewer didn't experience the movie when it was released. A must see.
  • Surprisingly not a classic

Huge movie fan, and for years watching this movie has eluded me. Finally got a chance to sit and watch this intensley promoted piece of movie history. Walked away thinking... This is it? A waste of time, and grossly exaggerated. I was so dissapointed. They actors have been celebrated in life for countless theatrical classics, but this one is a film I would NEVER reccomend... It's the same old, which was original then I suppose, America is evil and conservatives wanna kill peace loving, unaccountable, drug using, godless, left wing liberals... Usually plays well in Hollywood, but in this film its rather boring.
