This masterpiece was originally rated X ! How the world has changed. Richard Burton, arguably the greatest actor in history, both shreds up the screen and dissolves just as quickly. Liz Taylor gives her finest performance, though it wasn't a stretch from her real life. I knew Liz and though her fights with Richard were legendary, I am in no way saying she wasn't one of the kindest souls I have known. Edward Albee's screenplay is, again, unfathomable genius. Thank God this film is in B&W. My friend George Segal is brilliant and Sandy Dennis simply steals the film from Taylor. Unlike many reviews, this story is not about madness. This is, in the truest sense, a love story. There may be great pain, but it's "full of sound and fury, signifying nothing". In the end, love does prevail. If you have not seen this film and you are over 18, shame on you! Even young people will love this masterwork and hang on every word. However, if all you watch are superhero films, I weep for you. These were REAL stars with real talent. Anyone who rates this less than a 5 is a dolt, idiot, schmuck. The cinematography, direction and musical score ( something I've done over 70 times) are all outstanding. Be happy, love movies, and don't forget the popcorn and coke. Lastly, my closest friends and workmates have been the likes of Kate Hepburn, Gary Oldman,Kirk Douglas and Heath Ledger to name a few. I know of what I speak. Undoutfully the best preformance of Elizabeth taylors career i think, it even got her an oscar, bit i think it was a depressing plot.

This movie is the best movie of Elizabeth Taylor's career! It so raw and powerful that it's leaves you exhausted at the end! It's brilliantly directed and has such a strong screenplay! It's one of my favorite movies of all time! Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton are just magnificent on screen and off! I strongly recommend this movie to whoever is an Elizabeth Taylor fan or not, because her portray of Martha in this movie is unlike any of her usual roles! She is amazing and she definitely deserved her Oscar for this movie! All I have to say left is Incredible!

What can you say more about this film. One of the best film's to come out of the 60's and of all time. Elizabeth Taylor's perfomance is at once shocking and tender. She is simple BRILLIANT A MUST SEE!!!

You won't be when this movie is rough with you. A brilliant film. Some of the best performances you will ever see. Burton and Taylor transport you to an emotionally twisted world that you will be lucky to ever get out of.
