This film (which Sagan hated, btw) needs to be remade so it's more faithful to the book.

This is one of my all-time favorite movies. An intriguing storyline, one of those rare cases where a movie is better than the book that it’s based on. Excellent screenplay and good acting. I think this movie is awesome in scope and inspiring.

Has some great tunnel vision moments. Makes you think about our place in the universe and keeps giving. Love it!

It's a good movie, after all. The ending really makes you wonder if it was a hoax, planned by a genius billionaire. When I first saw the movie at the theatres, in Septemner 1997, the opening was simply dazzling!

I'm a big fan of both Zemeckis and Foster. They care about what they do, and they try to do things they've never done before. They don't always knock it out of the park, but you always know they gave it their best swing. In terms of commerical art, that means something. Contact embodies an unusual mix of science and humanity. As in life, you may not get what you expect (or want) from it, but what you do get feels genuine. The filmmakers did the impossible job of integrating scientific information with spirituality, beyond the confines of the university and church. I think in writing his book, Carl Sagan was attempting to gently open the public consciousness and take us beyond our limited perceptions and culture. Zemeckis admirably adapted this vision. It's definitely not "Independence Day." Don't look here if you need to watch the world blow up. Watch Contact if you need to sense (or be reminded) that you're not alone, and may indeed be part of a much grander spectacle.
