  • Great Teen Angst Movie that Translates Well to the US (other than the subtitles, lol)

I remember watching this movie several times shortly after it came out. It was on at 5:00 a.m. on HBO or Cinemax. I think I was in the 6th grade. The real reason was that I had a crush on Sophie Marceau, but the story grew on me and I liked it a lot. I watched it again recently to see if it still had the same magic and I caught myself smiling a lot. It's appropriate for tweens and young teens unless you keep them extremely sheltered. The content is very very mild compared with what you see just on television. It's a positive message about navigating the difficult teen years.

Growing up in Germany ... This was my favorite movie in my early teen years! I wish it was in German and not in French with English subtitles. I will rent it anyway because I just love this movie. It would be nice if they also had La Boum 2 on iTunes :) So now I am in my thirties and I can't wait to watch it again!

This is the movie I wasn't allowed to go see when it came out because I was only 10 but it was the real equivalent of the best of John Hughes' movies and (cherry on the cake!) with the supercute Sophie Marceau who went on the become a Bond girl and the star of Anthony Zimmer, the inspiration for The Tourist with Johnny Depp and Angelina...the ultimate French high-school movie and a Time Machine trip to 1980! Even the super cheesy theme-song will grow on you! And by the way "La Boum" means THE PARTY! A rather colorful and explosive way to describe a party you're the most likely to make out for the first time!
  • Classic film....a reference for the french movi Industry!
