Description

Academy Award® nominees Bill Murray and Laura Linney star in this delightful look at one of the most pivotal meetings in history. As Great Britain faces an imminent war with Germany, US President Franklin D. Roosevelt (Murray) and his wife, Eleanor (Olivia Williams), invite the King and Queen of England for a weekend at their home in upstate New York. But during the first-ever visit of a reigning British monarch to America, international affairs must be juggled with the complexities of FDR’s domestic establishment, as wife, mother, and mistresses all conspire to make the royal trip an unforgettable one. Hyde Park of Hudson is a charming and fresh look at true events and the mysteries of love and friendship, from the acclaimed director of Notting Hill.

Portrayed the President, First Lady, and their staff as crass, buffoons. The King and Queen of England are coming to visit and no one knows how to behave?! Really? The acting was ok. Laura Linney can usually pull anything off. I am not an FDR fan but I thought this movie made a mockery of the Office.

Was probably a very interesting story to those that knew the couple. However it really doesn't take off. From beginning to end you wait for something more.
  • weird but somehow noteworthy

This is a quirky and surprisingly odd movie. It is good, but not a typical historical movie. FDR is flawed, and strange. I was not expecting the point of view. Watch it and be surprised!

Days of our lives would have been a better use of my time. Pretty much about an affair. I don't know why I watched this.
  • Disjointed...

if you wanted this film to be like "Iron Lady" or "Kings Speech" then you will be disappointed. It is written like someones memoirs, and thats its flaw. The film ineptly jerks between FDR and the protagonist (his mistress/cousin Daisy). I feel they could have done so much more with the material... the only things worth seeing are Bill Murray as FDR in his Presidential role (distinct from his other womanizing side), and an interesting second look (coming off of Kings Speech) at King George and Queen Elizabeth. This movie really doesnt know what it wants to market itself as.. at times a flippant look at higher societies of the time.. at other times a study of power and its hold on people. Unless you enjoyed the source material you will probably be disapponted... it's narrative is more a recollection on the level of "the days of my summer".
  • Horrible plot, boring, uninspired

Not only is the plot & dialogue uninspired, but I kept thinking "what's the point?". Rambling, no real focus.
  • Kind of smarmy

Should have been cute and light with undertones of the threat of world war, but somehow it just comes out smarmy and off-putting.

An interesting and well-acted film. Bill Murray's portrayal of FDR was quite believable and the manner in which he interacted with King George VI was warm, witty, and genuine. Based on this, I would have enjoyed more time spent with Roosevelt and his other historical figures of the day.
  • almost subliminally polygamist...yuck

the fact that you were supposed to warmly accept the idea of this reluctant harem of women hovering around this old fart stroking his johnson, did anyone find that yucky but me? if this was true , the historical aspects of this story was totally overshadowed by the ickiness of that for me. are all women, no matter what, destined to be cursed with actions determined by low self esteem?
  • Simply the worst...

Hated every portrayal of every character. I thought it was impossible to make everyone look pathetic but I was wrong.
