Description

Lance Armstrong was considered one of the greatest sports figures of all time and put competitive cycling into the global spotlight, by beating cancer and winning the Tour de France seven times. That success earned him an immense fortune and worldwide fame. His was also one of the most influential and inspiring sports stories of recent memory and became a pop culture phenomenon, thanks to his Livestrong initiative. Beginning in 2009, Academy Award winning documentarian Alex Gibney followed Armstrong for four years chronicling his return to cycling after retirement, as he tried to win his eighth title. Unexpectedly, Gibney was also there in 2012 when Armstrong admitted to doping, following a federal criminal investigation, public accusations of doping by his ex-teammates, and an investigation by the US Anti-Doping Agency, that led USADA's CEO, Travis Tygart, to conclude that Armstrong's team had run 'the most sophisticated, professionalized and successful doping program that sport has ever seen.

  • Sad false story of a liar

Shame on me, a teenage girl at the time, to be proud of an athlete who lied and cheated to win the Tour De France. The only lesson I learned so how much I despise him for fooling me.

I FOUND THIS DOCUMENTARY TO BE INTERESTING BECAUSE WHEN THE DOPING SCANDAL FIRST HAPPENED, ALL YOU HEARD WAS RUMORS AND ALLEGATIONS ABOUT HOW AND WHAT HE DID. IT WAS INTERESTING TO SEE AND HEAR HIS PERSPECTIVE ON HOW EVERYTHING HAPPENED. NOT TO BE MISSED IF YOU WANT TO GET PAST THE RUMORS AND HEAR IT FROM THE HORSE’S MOUTH.
  • Great movie

I really don't believe Armstrong is sorry. He says he is sorry, but then goes on to explain that given the "context" of the time, that he was just doing what everyone else was doing. He tries to justify the lie by explaining it away...

Lance Armstrong inspired millions and USED to be a great man. There is nothing worse in this world than a cheater and liar. Not only do you disrespect the sport and your competitors, but you also let down all of the kids out there that looked up to you. By cheating, you don't deserve or earn anything. All of those medals are worthless. Raising money for cancer research is a great thing, but that's not the point. Anyone who tries to gain an "edge" is just a cheat. I would rather die a hard working, competitive loser, than a low down, disgraceful cheat. You can't bring those dirty medals to the afterlife.
  • You all don't know squat or refuse to accept fact!

Fact is everyone, not only Lance was doping! So the fact was the playing field was level and Lance still dominated! Anyone refusing to acknowledge this simple fact is smoking some unreal weed! Majority of writers just refuse to write about all the other cyclist who tested positive for PED's the same way they refuse to write about all the low level ball players who tested positive. They only choose to write about the top players/guys/women because they bring in the cheddar$$$!!!
  • Good doc, repetitious for cycling fans

Good movie with a lot of info about the entire scandal. Except doesn't really approach the strategy of Armstrong selectively avoiding any admissions that would hurt him in the courtroom. Cycling fans will recognize most if not all of the topics in the movie.

The movie is as boring as much as the subject matter. No surprise there. SAVE YOUR $$
  • A pitiable figure.

God bless the man, but the word that most accurately portrays how Lance treated his detractors all the years of maintaing The Lie is “cruel.” Cruel, heartless, vindictive, and utterly mean-spirited. My rage boils over at this fraud who so viciously tore down others for selfish reasons.
  • Highly Suggest! Very intriguing !!!

I honestly don't know much about Lance Armstrong, just the highlights. And coming in & watching this as a semi outsider, it was fascinating!! The director did a great job of supplying all point of views, including Lance's! Even for the non-cyclist enthusiast (like myself), the director gives you enough background to follow the documentary. A part of me wanted to root for Armstrong, & another part wanted justice. I felt for a documentary, it was more subjective then a typical doc. I would highly recommend if you're interested in the full back ground of the scandal, & both sides.
  • Must see for any cyclist

A great movie that shows you the inside of what it was like and who Lance is. Every cyclist and sports lover need to watch it. Great story about power.
