Description

Academy Award winner Clark Gable stars with Gene Harlow in a sensuous drama as steamy as the isolated southeast Asian jungle plantation site of a torrid, illicit romance in the pre-Hayes Code classic Red Dirt. When the prostitute Vantine (Harlow) becomes stranded on the Indochinese plantation owned by Dennis Carson (Gable), the two are quickly in each other's arms. But Vantine leaves just as engineer Gary Willis (Gene Raymond) and his seemingly proper--but sexually frustrated--wife, Barbara (Mary Astor), arrive. Mrs. Willis soon tries to seduce Carson, who is not above taking advantage of her. Then Vantine returns to the plantation. Now as passions ignite, lust turns to violence, and naked emotions strip a thin veneer of sanity from one of the two women.
