  • Not just bad, unwatchable

This movie is a poster child for Hollywood rubbish. It is the sort of hysterical overwrought comedy that gives American comedy a bad name and leaves you wishing you'd watched a smart understated (and guess what, funny) British comedy instead. Cringe-worthy. The plot lurches from one implausible, what-the-hell-brought-that-on conflict to another. The character played by Lily Tomlin is impossible to believe. Poor Lily, I could feel her straining to make grandma believable. But there's no rescuing an crappy script. The other characters are similarly unbelievable. Every time they opened their mouths to deliver some snappy Hollywood comeback I struggled not to hit stop. Finally I could resist no longer. Unwatchable.

'Grandma' is truly a little gem, well-written and hilarious with a wonderful supporting cast! It might not be for everyone but give it a chance; it will enlighten you!

This was one of the best films of 2015 and one of my all time favorites. Lily Tomlin is hilarious as the foul mouthed grandma. It's the feel good movie of the year about abortions and aging lesbians.

Save your self two hours and go read a book or at least watch something else. The people could not be worse to each other in this movie. Watch the trailer and move on as that was the best part.

It was really cute. I would recommend. This isn't really a comedy though.

This movie is fantastic- cast, acting, writing, directing… all of it. For those who gave it poor reviews- go watch some more fluff; this one’s beyond you.

it’s an “Indie” film so many might not get it.. But it is really well done. Tomlin is perfect as grandma...

Most reviews are over concerned about the topic -abortion. Get over it, that is a necessary reality. What is wonderful are the performances, the best of which is from Lilly Tomlin. By turns funny, growling and witty (what a wonderful set of words that begins with the letter ‘O”!) she dominates the film for tough topics without becoming maudlin or preachy. All supporting actors were great as well and helped establish a balance to the strengths of Lilly performance. The topic is not for everyone, but the lives shown are for all to see and for that alone should not be missed. A delightful surprise!
