Description

History comes alive in this supremely entertaining film that garnered eight Oscar nominations including Best Picture. Oscar-winners Robert Redford ("Up Close and Personal," "Indecent Proposal") and Dustin Hoffman ("Outbreak," "Rain Man") play Woodward and Bernstein, the intrepid newspaper reporters who broke open the Watergate scandal and toppled a President. The screenplay by William Goldman ("Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," "Indecent Proposal") won an Oscar, as did Jason Robards ("Philadelphia," "Parenthood") as Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee. Featuring an all-star supporting cast, including Hal Holbrook ("Evening Shade"), Jane Alexander ("Kramer vs. Kramer"), Meredith Baxter ("Family Ties"), Ned Beatty ("Roseanne"), Martin Balsam ("Psycho"), Jack Warden ("Heaven Can Wait"), Polly Holliday ("Alice"), Stephen Collins ("Sisters"), Robert Walden ("Lou Grant") and many others.

American journalism is not fake news...this is what American journalism is. How many people choose careers because of this endlessly watchable movie. Redford and Hoffman were at the top of their careers. I have to give tip top marks to the supporting cast, especially Jason Robards, Jr.. Script and direction are right on the money. If you were not of the 70's or can't remember those years it is impossible to understand what Watergate was and how big this story became. ABC, CBS, NBC were all we had nationally for evening news & of course public broadcasting was only about ten years old. No matter what you were watching...and you waited all week for it, marked in your TV Guide, shows would suddenly be pre-empted and go to Watergate hearings that any kid hated but were so important. Back then the daily paper was the portal to the the city, the nation and the world in only one section each, but man you felt informed and this movie is about the two underdogs who scooped everyone all the way to the biggest story of them all in the 1970's I remember so well! Book is great too!
  • A great and intelligent movie

This movie has one of the beat scripts casts and performances ever put to screen. The movie greatly depict the events of the Watergate scandal and how the man was caught. Great movie to watch pretty much all the time.

A rare piece of art that exceeds most others in every way—not to mention an astounding insight into American politics.

This movie is so well put together, Redford and Hoffman are great and it really should be a movie everyone watches to understand what happened during this era. Director Alan J. Pakula's best movie I think. Superb!
  • Very good movie about reporters.

An overall great movie with great actors. At one point I even felt like Woodward did…….afraid and paranoid after knowing the truth. If you like suspense and true reporting you’ll love this movie. What’s even scarier is that it’s all true! Buy it or rent it!!!!
