Description

In the darkest days of World War II, Jewish fugitives attempt to escape occupied Holland ? only to face a Nazi ambush. Rachel Stein (Carice van Houten) alone survives the attack and joins the Dutch Resistance to avenge her family. She soon confronts the ultimate test: she must infiltrate German headquarters by tempting Captain Ludwig Mÿntze (Sebastian Hoch). In the heat of passion, he uncovers her duplicity...but keeps her secret. Then Rachel's espionage reveals that a murderous traitor lurks within Resistance ranks. Unable to fully trust anyone, Rachel navigates a minefield of deception and becomes an enemy to both sides. Epic, passionate, breathtaking, Black Book relates an untold story of World War II where the distinctions between good and evil become blurred by the complexities of human nature.

This movie is like a Lifetime TV movie but sexier. A fantasy based around historical events. It does take license and go over the top but, if entertainment is more important than a close regard for history then you might like this.

Just finished watching and I have to say I haven't seen a movie this good in a long while. I love it when I rent a movie that I never heard of and it exceeds my expectations.

I just saw this fine film at a small art house theater. Several times I found myself thinking, "This is really good." The only other Dutch film I remember seeing was Solder of Orange. I found Black Book to be far superior. The production values were high, the cast was excellent and the story had several twists that kept me engaged. Highly recommended.

i thought the story sounded great, and the trailer looked compelling...... boy was i wrong. Gratuitous nudity and dramatic music does not a classic make!! It seems like a lost opportunity to me. Don't waste 2 1/2 hours. Enough said.

Paul Verhoeven does it again. Lead actress Carice Van Houten is outstanding in the role of a Jewish woman pushed to the end of her rope. Twists and turns throughout caused this movie buff to miss guess some of the ending. Still a bit in shock but felt the need to write a review recommending this film highly. A must see. First review I've ever written on Itunes. This film deserved it.

This one of the greatest movies I've seen in a very long time. My mother and I were speechless when it ended. This is easily the best plot for a thriller/ mystery I've ever seen.
